philomena+ promotes the intercultural exchange between the WANA region (West Asia and North Africa) and Vienna, Austria. philomena+ organizes and curates exhibitions, public art projects, artist residencies, exchange programmes with art institutions in Austria and abroad, panel discussions, round tables and publication projects on pressing global issues. Rather tan focusing on an art which is only related to objects, philomena+ promotes an art which relates to individuals or life.
our mission
philomena+ aims to connect artist and architects from the WANA region with the local art community in Vienna and vice versa. The main purpose is to provide a platform for artists, intellectuals, researchers and the civil society for dialoguing, questioning and creating. In addion philomena+ seeks to work with artist and architects, who originate from the WANA region and have recently settled in Vienna or Greater Austria, offering a first point of contact and support for establishing in the new environment and build future collaborations.
our history
Motivated by an understanding that sees art as an outlet for different social groups and a way for promoting a global peaceful coexistence, the art historians Christine Bruckbauer and Negar Hakim founded the philomena+ platform in 2016 with the aim to promote intersocietal and intercultural collaborations: “We understand us as cultural diplomats who engage in an exchange of deas, information, art and other aspects of culture among nations, and their peoples in order to foster mutual understanding”
