Mai Al Shazly (*1985 in Cairo, lives and works in Cairo) holds a degree in Business Administration. She works as a multidisciplinary artist and a visual researcher focussing on identity and its relationship with the surrounding environment and the current political issues. For philomena+ she creates a facsimile of a bomb enveloped with the shards of the famous Chinese-inspired Willow Pattern porcelain. Through this new work, she addresses the colonial debris of fragile, conflict-affected areas in the world. She collaborates with Ernst Miesgang and Sula Zimmermann. Together, they develop and realize the exhibition Shatter&Shape, which will take place from July 27 – Sep 9, 2023.
