Malek Gnaoui

03/10 – 17/10/2021

Malek Gnaoui (*1983 in Gabes, lives and works in Tunis) studied ceramics at the École d’art et design de Tunis and at the Centre National des Arts Ceramiques Sidi Kacem Jellizi. Using video reportage, ceramics, installation, sound or performance, Malek Gnaoui deals with sensitive questions about social conditions and the concept of “human sacrifice” in all its forms.

In Vienna he participated in the public art event “Banal Complexities تعقيدات  عادية⁩ “, for which he and the Austrian-based artist Markus Hiesleitner conceived the intervention “Wunderkorb 1694“.

Malek Gnaoui’s residency took place within the framework of CARREFOUR DES POSSIBLES, an annual residency and exhibition program established in 2018, in collaboration with LA BOÎTE Tunis. Each time, an artist from Tunis is matched with an artist from Vienna.
