Sarri Elfaitouri

12/09 – 18/09/2023 cancelled due to another appointment

Sarri Elfaitouri (* 1996, lives and works in Benghazi) is an architect, artist, art curator and cultural manager based in Benghazi, Libya. Sarri Elfaitouri founded TAJARROD Architecture and Art Foundation in 2019, a reformist architecture and art movement that aims to rebuild post-war Libya not only as a physical environment but also as a socio-cultural entity. Sarri Elfaitouri’s work is based on an interdisciplinary synthesis between architecture, art, sociology, anthropology and politics that aims to create a critical understanding of the world. He also aims to explore contemporary, socio-cultural issues, identities and ideologies and their impact on architecture and cities, particularly in the Libyan context. With a critical and experimental approach, he articulates his ideas in different media: research, theoretical architectural and written projects, and collage art. He has also published theoretical projects and essays online, and participated in several art exhibitions at home and abroad.

In collaboration with Fatim Zahra Benhamza and Negar Hakim he conceived The Placeless Academy, a platform that aims to question, analyse, and critique the legacy of modern architecture and art in the WANA region in order to produce alternative critical discourse beyond the Western line of thought. For Vienna they develop an exhibition that presents the results of a year-long research in the framework a workshop with different participants.
