Younes Ben Slimane is a Tunisian artist and filmmaker. His architectural background has a major influence on his approach as an artist. Working through film, video, photography, drawing and installation, he establishes a permanent dialogue between architecture and visual arts, where different mediums coexist and reflect each other’s potentialities and limitations. Younes completed post-graduate studies at Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains (FR). His films have been selected in international festivals such as Locarno Film Festival (CH) and cph:dox (DK). His work has been exhibited at the Mucem in Marseille (FR), Solar -Galeria de Arte Cinemática in Vila do conde (PRT) and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje (MK). This year, he will be participating in Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art (SN). Younes has received the Loop Barcelona award (ES) and the Studio Collector Prize (FR).
During his residency at philomena+ he realises the collaborative exhibition Sense of Touch with the artists Ava Binta Giallo and Verena Schneider, which will be presented at Parallel Vienna (11/09–16/09/2024) and at philomena+ (20/09–28/09/2024).
Younes Ben Slimane’s’residency takes place within the framework of “Carrefour des Possibles”, an annual residency and exhibition program established in 2018, in collaboration with LA BOÎTE Tunis. Each time, an artist from Tunis is matched with one or two artists from Vienna.
