As global networking progresses, artist-in-residence programs are becoming increasingly widespread. They offer the opportunity of working in a fresh environment, making new contacts and trigger cultural exchange and discussion on different production conditions.

In September 2018 Manaf Halbouni (AIR KulturKontakt) and Yesmine Ben Khelil (AIR philomena+) will stay as artists in residence in Vienna. While Manaf Halbouni left his native country Syria ten years ago, Yesmine Ben Khelil lives and works in Tunisia. Their different situations are complemented by the position of the artist couple Irena Eden and Stijn Lernout, who decided to live in Austria in 2008.

The event is a cooperation project of KulturKontakt Austria, the Bundeskanzleramt and philomena+.
